About Chives
One of the easiest herbs to grow - virtually indestructible once established. They are the smallest edible member of the onion family. Their purple flowers are edible and make beautiful garnishes. They repel aphids and other garden pests, making them excellent companion plants. They have been cultivated in Europe since the Middle Ages. Chinese chives (garlic chives) have flat leaves and a mild garlic flavor. They are rich in vitamins A and C. They produce new growth after cutting, allowing multiple harvests per season. They naturalize freely and can become invasive. The flowers attract bees and butterflies.
