About Fenugreek
The seeds smell like maple syrup - in fact, fenugreek is the primary flavoring in artificial maple syrup. It has been used for 6,000+ years. Clinical studies show it may lower blood sugar in diabetics. It is a key ingredient in curry powder and panch phoron (Bengali five spice). Both seeds and leaves are used in Indian cooking. The leaves are called methi. It can increase milk production in nursing mothers. Ancient Egyptians used it in embalming. It smells so much like maple that the sweat and urine of people who eat large amounts smell like maple syrup. India produces 80% of world supply.
