About Marjoram

Closely related to oregano but milder and sweeter. The Greeks associated it with Aphrodite and wove it into wedding crowns. It was called the herb of happiness in Renaissance Italy. It contains thymol and carvacrol, giving it antimicrobial properties. It is a key ingredient in herbes de Provence and zaatar. Sweet marjoram is the culinary variety. It attracts beneficial insects. It has been used as a nerve tonic and digestive aid for centuries. It is sometimes called pot marjoram when grown in containers. The essential oil is used in perfumery and aromatherapy for stress relief.
