Scented Geranium
About Scented Geranium
Not actually geraniums - they are Pelargonium species. The leaves come in dozens of scents: rose, lemon, mint, coconut, apple, nutmeg, and chocolate. They are used to flavor jellies, cakes, and teas. The Victorians grew them by the hundreds. The rose-scented variety is the most popular. The essential oil is used in perfumery and aromatherapy. They are drought-tolerant and easy to grow. They can be trained into standards and topiaries. They root easily from cuttings. Over 200 scented varieties exist. They are excellent container plants. The leaves can be used in potpourri and sachets.
