About Lovage

One of the most underused herbs in Western cooking. Its flavor combines celery, parsley, and anise. Every part is edible: leaves, stems, seeds, and roots. It can grow 2 meters tall. It was a favorite of the ancient Romans and Greeks. The seeds are used in commercial food flavoring. The stems can be candied like angelica. It is a vigorous perennial that returns reliably. The leaves make excellent soup stock. It is sometimes called sea parsley or love parsley. It has diuretic properties. It is virtually absent from modern cookbooks but deserves a comeback.
