About Sweet Cicely

One of the few naturally sweet herbs - it can reduce the sugar needed in fruit dishes by up to half. Its leaves, stems, roots, and seeds are all edible. It has a mild anise-celery flavor. It was widely used in medieval European cooking before falling out of favor. The unripe green seeds are sweet and can be eaten like candy. It is one of the first herbs to appear in spring and one of the last to die in fall. It prefers cool, moist, shady conditions. It is native to European woodlands. It naturalizes freely. It is experiencing a revival among foragers and chefs.
